Six Bells

Initially named Arail Griffin, Six Bells began production in 1892.

We are told that when the colliery was at it's peak in 1914 the mine was employing 2857 men and the coal produced was prime steam, coking and house coal.

An explosion which occurred in 1960 took the lives of 45 miners.
