Cwmtillery
1850 - 1982

Work began here in 1850 and the colliery was closed in 1982, after 132 years of production.

Cwmtillery was the first mine in Wales to employ a Meco-Moore Power Loader. Another claim to fame was the man-rider conveyor, said to be the longest ever and which was used to transport men and materials up to 3km from the shafts, where coal was extracted from the Garw Seam.
