Groesfaen Colliery

Groesfaen Colliery was the deepest in the Darran vally at 2160 feet .
Work on the shafts began sometime between 1902 and 1906 and the colliery was in full production by 1908.

The mine produced coal for sixty years and employed a workforce of around 730 men.

Groesfaen was closed in 1968.
