My Father in Law worked in a pit in Bedlington Northumberland and died in 1952 as a result of a stone falling on him. He left a wife and an 11yr old son. Are there any ways in which my husband can make a claim for compensation? I believe his mother received 5 shillings for her son (I presume per week) and 3 loads of coal per year. I think that poor compensation for a life. Obviously as you will understand the shock of this was enormous and Mrs ....... was never the same after that. They struggled through life and the stress of it caused her to have a stroke at an early age (She never smoked or drank). My husband was also affected greatly and I feel that there should be some way in which he could be compensated. Yours faithfully ( Dave has deleted the names of the family, but
obtained their permission to reprint their letter. ) |
