The Night Shift is a collection of six episodes of sit-com from Ian Newton.
It is about the hard and gritty humour of working people who live and
work in the real world, their particular world being the night shift.
It is based on Ian Newton’s own experience of working permanent night
shifts for more than a decade. However the uniqueness of ‘The Night
Shift’ is that it could be any factory or workplace and readers will
recognise themselves and their work mates in the book.
‘The Night Shift’ is about the armchair politicians who can
put the world to rights on the back of a fag packet and still have room
to make a note of the next days favourite in the 2.30 at Epsom. It is
about making mischief and having a bit of a laugh and crack to while away
the long hours of a twelve hour shift doing as little as possible for
as much as possible.
The world of the night shift worker is a strange place and it breeds its
own crusty characters who find the darkness and the absence of the bosses
an excuse to have some real fun with the company paying for it. Life gets
to be just one big wind up or one long laugh from the start to the end
of the shift.
Ian Newton is best known as the author of ‘Dustbingate’ that
rocked the Blair Government in 1998 and more recently the thriller ‘pizza
wars’.
